CELESTIAL BODIES

ABOUT

CELESTIAL BODIES is a 29 minute drama following a group of teenagers who, amongst dealing with mental health struggles of their own, discover they possess strange abilities. Produced by the Young Actors’ Assembly, it was shot over the course of three days in early 2022— mostly using gear that I owned.

Due to the length of the script, the pace of the shoot was quite fast and challenging for a perfectionist like me. I learnt a lot on how to prioritise the importance of specific shots, scheduling, and time management. We faced setbacks with weather and locations, which we powered through and I am immensely proud of the work we did on CELESTIAL BODIES to this day.

The style of the film is an interesting blend of naturalistic and staged, taking advantage of the available light and softening sources as much as possible. For certain scenes, we pushed the theatricality of the lighting to heighten certain emotions, whilst others remained more muted and natural. It was also shot mostly handheld to provide a certain intensity to the scenes.
