FOOL’S GOLD
ABOUT
FOOL’S GOLD is a 16 minute drama that explores stereotypes of queer students in contemporary Australian high schools and the systemic discrimination they face. It was part of two projects I was hired on by the Young Actors’ Assembly, and shot over the course of three days. | have a continued professional relationship with YAA, and have shot multiple projects for them over the past few years.
It was written by two students who also starred in the film. It was an interesting experience working with high schoolers in a professional environment, and taught me a lot about how to approach production situations with more a explanatory demeanor.
In terms of style, we opted for more locked-off shots than handheld— with those reserved for specific flashbacks to intensify and accentuate those moments.
